Synopsis
Coronavirus has infected millions and killed hundreds of thousands. Even after the disease passes, humanity will live with its effects for years to come, and different sections of society will pay different costs. Especially the most vulnerable and those that rely on the informal economy, women, those living with disabilities, refugees, and the displaced.
The Product
A digital story that highlights how this pandemic will exacerbate existing inequality and how a rapid response from UNDP will help countries prepare, respond and recover from the pandemic.
Content Structure
After working closely with the content editor for this story we identified that the narrative should be restructured and the story and visuals must communicate the following key messages -
1. Urgency around this topic (Covid-19 & rising inequalities).
2. UNDP’s role in addressing this complex problem and what tools are being deployed.
3. How will these efforts create a positive impact in society?
Visual Treatment and concept
The visual concept followed the above key messages. A gradient scroll was created to depict a visual experience that starts with urgency but ends with a calmer and more hopeful color palette.
With only developing information available the spread and movement of this novel virus was depicted using blurry animated blobs vs. the scientific spiked shape of the virus. Communicating the urgency of this topic but, at the same time not making the user uncomfortable. Color Spectrum: From peachy orange to bright reds towards a more tranquil blue.
The concept was executed as a backdrop with minimal interference with the content, so that the user stays focused on the data and key messages while the visuals were responsible for user experience and engagement.

+ Coordination of on time delivery of hero story assets from content producer, fact checkers, social media team and worked closely with lead developer for design execution.
